Javed has done his schooling from the B.V.S. Parsi High School, Karachi, he is a Commerce Graduate from University of Karachi (St. Patrick’s College, Karachi) and LL.B from University of Karachi (S.M. Law College, Karachi) in first division; he has also pursued a number of courses such as from the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) & The British Council.

Since joining the firm in 1979 Javed has maintained a special interest in intellectual property matters, and over the years has been involved in a wide range of litigation and commercial matters concerning trademarks, geographical indications, designs, copyrights, electronic commerce law and general matters such as Co-operative Societies, Rent, Succession, etc. He advises on a wide range of commercial transactions involving IP rights. His experience includes the preparation, processing and prosecution of applications, oppositions, rectifications, appeal and suit pleadings and other actions in the courts and at the Pakistan Trade Marks Office. He has appeared before various District & High Courts in Pakistan including at Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi & Islamabad. Javed is now also an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and has appeared before the Supreme Court of Pakistan alongside senior counsels. He has conducted many proceedings before the Pakistan Trademarks Office, the Pakistan Copyright Board, Controller of Patents and Registrar of Designs.

Apart from participating in many Intellectual Property/Law conferences, workshops and seminars both at home and abroad Javed has made presentations on various topics concerning Intellectual Property & Consumer Laws and also delivered lecture on IP at the Sindh Judicial Academy.  In addition Javed has experience in the area of general corporate representation having also worked as in-house counsel in the corporate sector for such companies as Shell & ICI.

He was the Joint Secretary of Pakistan Industrial and Intellectual Property Rights Association (PIPRA) for six years, Senior Vice Chairman-II for a number of years and the Senior Vice Chairman I of that Association. He is a member of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) having attended many APAA Council & General Meetings abroad and was on the Designs & Copyright Standing Committees of APAA for a number of years. He is a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan, Sindh High Court Bar Association, Karachi Bar Association, Karachi Tax Bar Association, International Trademarks Association (INTA) (based on firm’s membership) and a member of the Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA).
