Zara has joined Vellani & Vellani in 2022 as a Counsel. She is an Advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan and advises on transactional and corporate/commercial matters including, company law, foreign exchange, dispute resolution and labour law related matters. Her practice is primarily focused on banking and finance, and project financing. 

 

Zara has 12 years of experience in the banking/finance and project development industry and she specializes in the energy sector. She advises a mix of lenders, sponsors and project companies, including multilateral and bilateral development banks, development finance institutions such as the IFC, ADB, IsDb, BII, DFC, Islamic finance institutions and commercial banks such as Meezan Bank Limited, Habib Bank Limited, Faysal Bank Limited and Bank AL Falah Limited. The most notable transactions include, advising the lenders on Pakistan’s largest private sector hydropower project, advising the local and foreign lenders in the first-of-its kind financing of six renewable wind power projects in Sindh and advising the foreign lenders in the development and financing of the mine mouth power plants being established in Thar, Sindh. 

 

Zara has been selected as a Rising Star by the IFLR1000 and is a founding member of the Women Lawyers Association, formed in 2018 to give female attorneys/litigators a platform for professional development.
