Joined as an Assistant Associate in December 2011, Minhaj deals with the matters at the Pakistan Patent & Design Office (including Searches, Filing of New Applications, Examinations and Responses, Oppositions, Restoration, Assignments, Change in Name/Address etc.). Additionally, he deals with various Chemical, Mechanical, Pharmaceutical Patents and Designs in Pakistan. Before joining the firm, Minhaj worked as Assistant Manager in well-known Textile Corporation.

Providing proper legal remedy as embodied in the present Patents Ordinance 2000. The work entrusted by foreign companies to us in Pakistan is moving forward to their satisfaction and we have not, as yet, received any complaint whatsoever.

Recent Practice

Awareness to Local Clients for Filing Patent and Design Application:

Provided awareness and developed interest to file Patent and Design Applications in IPO. This was done by meeting with the clients in the Textile, Pharmaceutical and Engineering fields. Their research was safeguarded by the filing of new applications.

Registration of Local Client Cases Internationally:

Helped local clients to file applications overseas to get their inventions secured under their territory. Four applications filed under Pakistan priority have been granted internationally and they are well recognized and quoted in different IPO seminars in Pakistan.

Amendment in Patents Ordinance 2000

Drafted, reviewed and advised on the amendments in the Patents Ordinance 2000, as asked by the IPO to make it clear and to make it in accordance with the present practice of Patent and Design Office.

Opposition:

Since joining the firm, only six opposition cases were filed against one of the clients at the Pakistan Patent Office and Minhaj represented the client in those cases at the Pakistan Patent Office. 

Assignments:

More than twenty cases for Assignments of the Client were successfully dealt.

Other Experiences

  • Attended JPAA Seminar on Patent Drafting, Examination and Response at Phnom Phen, Cambodia in 2019 
  • Attended Workshop by WIPO and IPO Pakistan on Patent Search by different Search Engines at Karachi, Pakistan in 2019. 
  • Worked as Organizer in One week workshops in Textile conducted by Applied Chemistry dept. in 2007 & 2008. 
  • Represented Department of Applied Chemistry in Mega Tex Asia 2008 held in Karachi Expo Centre.
