Ms. Dilshad Bharucha

Dilshad joined the firm in September 1998 and since then has been mainly involved in commercial matters including corporate work and taxation including assisting the senior counsel in litigation in the courts in Pakistan upto the High Court. Dilshad is also engaged in matters relating to intellectual property which includes preparations and processing of applications, oppositions, infringements and other related matters. After working with the firm for a decade, Dilshad moved to Australia for higher studies and professional development and has recently returned to Pakistan after spending 8 years in Australia. While in Australia, Dilshad completed her Masters in Law (with specialization in Intellectual Property) from Monash University. During her time in Australia, Dilshad worked in the legal department of the Australian Wheat Board, and in the firm of Thomsons Lawyers in their commercial and taxation team, and also in the firm of FB Rice, one of the top five patent attorney firms in Australia. Upon her return to the firm, Dilshad continues to be involved in commercial and intellectual property matters. She is enrolled as an advocate with the Sindh Bar Council and the Sindh High Court Bar Association and is a member of the Pakistan Industrial and Intellectual Property Association (PIPRA), and a member of International Trademarks Association (INTA) (based on firmís membership).

Ms. Huma Soomro

Huma joined the firm in 2004 as an Associate. She specialises in corporate, commercial and intellectual property matters. She is also actively involved in litigation proceedings and has assisted senior counsel in the High Court and before various tribunals. She was educated at Kingís College London. She is a Barrister-at-Law and was called to the Bar in 1999. She is a member of the Honourable Society of Lincolnís Inn. Before joining Vellani & Vellani, Huma worked in London at Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer. Mr. Khawaja Shoaib Mansoor

Shoaib joined the firm in January 2006 and has since then been primarily involved in matters related to intellectual property and corporate matters including the incorporation of companies in Pakistan and establishing branches in Pakistan of foreign companies and real estate matters. Shoaibís legal practice concentrates on handling litigious matters and has represented individuals as well as local and multinational companies before tribunals, District Courts and the High Courts located all over Pakistan, in matters ranging from commercial and civil disputes to family settlements and intestate and testamentary proceedings. He is enrolled as an advocate with the Sindh Bar Council and is a member of the Karachi Bar Association, Sindh High Court Bar Association and also a member of Pakistan Industrial & Intellectual Property Rights Association (PIPRA). Ms. Khushnum Muncherji

Khushnum joined the firm in 1998 and has since been involved in corporate and commercial matters, including project finance (syndicated loans, project finance, Islamic financing), infrastructure projects, establishing branches in Pakistan of foreign companies, banking and financing transactions and primarily now in intellectual property matters. During the initial years of joining she was involved in assisting senior counsel in litigation in specialised tribunals and the courts in Pakistan upto the High Court. She now specializes in the area of intellectual property including trademarks, copyrights as well as domain names. Her areas of expertise include advising on trademark availability, oppositions, rectifications, infringements and cancellation/revocation actions. She has advised clients who are engaged in the field of food and beverages, finance, electricity, media and entertainment, computer technology, pharmaceuticals, petroleum, natural gas, edible oils, tea and cigarettes. Ms. Sana Shaikh Fikree

Sana joined the firm in July 2002 and has since then been primarily involved in matters related to intellectual property, corporate and commercial law. She advises corporate and individual clients on matters concerning maintenance and enforcement of IP rights (trademarks, copyrights, domain names, anti-counterfeiting and other emerging IP Rights). She has extensive experience of leading teams dedicated to maintain, protect and enforce IP rights (particularly, trademarks and copyrights) of specific clients belonging to sectors as diverse as confectionary, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals, tobacco, clothing, petroleum, and IT. She has also been involved with matters relating to corporate and commercial laws, including, mergers and acquisitions, anti-trust, corporate governance, cyber and media/advertising laws. Ms. Seema Shahid Mansoor

Seema joined the firm in 1983. She specializes in the area of intellectual property including trade mark and copyright laws. Her areas of expertise includes advising on trademark availability, oppositions, rectifications, infringements and cancellations. Seema has also been actively involved in corporate law including mergers, acquisitions, taxation and other related matters. She has also been active in matters relating to electronic commerce law such as domain name registration and resolving domain name conflict in Pakistan. Mr. Ahmed Madni

Madni did his B. Com from Karachi University, and then completed his L.L.B. from Hamdard School of Law in the year 2011 qualifying with 1st position and two gold medals and is at present enrolled to appear before the High Courts in Pakistan. He initially joined the firm of M. Naim-ur-Rahman & Associates in 2011 and has been with Vellani & Vellani since 1 July 2015 following the merger of the firms. Since joining he has been handling all forms of litigation, actively appearing before the District courts, Banking Courts, Special Tribunals and the High Court. He also regularly deals with property matters before the Regulatory Authorities. Madni is enrolled to plead before the High Court.

Mr. Didar Karim

Didar Karim joined the firm in October 1995 and has since then been involved in matters relating to Intellectual Property, particularly in connection with Trade Marks and Copyrights. He deals with matters relating to preparation, processing and prosecuting of applications, oppositions, rectifications/cancellations, infringements and all other related matters. Mr. Karim attends hearings in relation to oppositions, rectifications, applications (ex-parte) matters at the Trade Marks Office. He also attends the hearings at the Copyright Office in oppositions and rectifications matters. Ms. Mumtaz Gul

Mumtaz joined Vellani & Vellani in May 1997. Since joining she has been mainly involved in intellectual property matters including preparation and processing of applications, oppositions. Ms. Naz Toosy Jalil

Naz joined the firm in March 2016. She has experience in matters relating to general corporate practice as well as litigious matters ranging from commercial and civil disputes to family and property disputes. At the Firm, Nazís work mainly comprises of assisting senior counsel in research and preparation of all documentation with respect to litigation proceedings. She completed her B.A from Karachi University, Pakistan and LL.B (Hons.) from the University of London in 2004. She completed her Bar Vocational Course from the University of the West of England, Bristol and was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Middle Temple in 2005. Naz was admitted as an advocate in the High Courts of Pakistan in 2009.

Ms. Sanaya F. Vachha

Sanaya joined the firm in 2002 and has primarily been involved in matters relating to corporate and commercial law. Her experience includes being involved in and advising local and international clients in matters related to the setting up of and incorporation of private companies, not for profit organizations and liaison offices, mergers and acquisitions, anti-trust, corporate governance, project financing, banking and financing including microfinance banking, foreign exchange regulations, arbitration, labour laws, property matters, rent laws, cyber and media laws and several due diligence exercises. She also advises on general commercial contracts ranging from licensing and franchising agreements to supply and distribution agreements. Additionally, Sanaya has been dealing with intellectual property matters including opposition proceedings in relation to trademarks and copyrights. Mr. Yasir Alibhai

Yasir holds a primary degree in Geography and Development Studies from Kingís College London and the School of Oriental and African Studies, London UK and joined the firm in April 2013 after having completed his LLB (Graduate Diploma in Law Conversion) from BPP University College, London UK. Since then, Yasir has worked extensively on matters pertaining to corporate and commercial transactions, incorporation and winding-up of companies, Islamic and project finance and tax issues, anti-trust law, restructuring, mergers and acquisitions, property matters and has advised a range of local and international clients in various fields and sectors including energy and power, banking, pharmaceuticals, shipping, non-profit, media, real estate and fast moving consumer goods. Asim graduated with an LLB from the University of London and joined the firm soon after in September 2016. Ms. Rounaq Khoja

Rounaq graduated with an LLB (Honours) and a Masters in Accountancy from the University of Edinburgh.. Ms. Sumera Feroz

Sumera joined the firm in January 2010 and holds an LLB degree from the University of Karachi. Ms. Tahreem Zehra

Having completed her LLB from the University of London in 2015, Tahreem went on to study the Legal Practice Course at the University of Law, London. Soon after completing the Legal Practice Course, Tahreem joined the firm in October 2016. Tahreem has been involved in various corporate, commercial and intellectual property matters. She has also actively been involved in litigation proceedings and has assisted senior counsel in the High Court and before various tribunals. During her time in London, Tahreem also briefly worked with the Mc Kenzie Group and the National Centre for Domestic Violence. Ms. Zoya Asad Hasan

Zoya has obtained a first class bachelor's degree in arts, studying economics, history and sociology prior to pursuing her LLB, which she completed in 2015. She joined the firm in March 2016, and has since, been involved in corporate transactions, intellectual property, competition law and family law matters. She also assists senior counsel at the High Court in relation to commercial, property and tort matters and is a member of the International Trade Marks Association (INTA).

Mr. Abdullah Rauf Puri

Abdullah joined the firm in January 2016. His practice primarily focuses on corporate and commercial advisory matters. He has advised on matters including incorporation of companies, general corporate and commercial transactional work including reviewing and drafting of contracts, advising on regulatory issues, advising national and international clients in various fields including beverages, food, labour, tax, banking, pharmaceutical, competition, immovable property and not-for-profit sector. Mr. Anwer Ghani

Mr. Anwer Ghani is a science graduate in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from the University of Karachi. He joined the firm in 1969 and worked closely with the late senior partner of the firm, F .W. Vellani. He is responsible for providing advice to clientsí on matters relating to patent, design and Registered Layout-designs of integrated circuits and other related matters. He handles patent/design procurement, advises clientsí regarding Examination Reports, drafting of claims, general correspondence, assignments, oppositions, infringement and attending hearings before the Controller of Patents. Mr. Ghani is a member of The Pakistan Industrial & Intellectual Property Rights (PIPRA) and a member of International Trademarks Association (INTA) (based on firmís membership).

Mr. Khawja Mansoor

Mr. Khawja Mansoor joined the firm in 1975 and having been a senior associate is now a Consultant at the firm. Mr. Mansoor is an advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, authorised to appear in all High Courts and all other courts and tribunals subordinate thereto throughout the country. Mr. Khawja Mansoor specializes in Intellectual Property such as trademarks, patents, copyrights, trade secrets etc. including preparation and processing of applications, oppositions, rectifications, infringements, passing off and other all related issues, research and opinions thereon. In areas of civil litigation he has expertise in matters including those relating to Civil Damages, Intellectual Property, Real Estate, Contracts, Banking, Family laws and Corporate matters. Mr. Mansoor represents clients before the Supreme Court, High Courts, and the District Courts of Karachi, Rawalpindi, Multan, Lahore, Peshawar and Islamabad.

In addition to his legal practice, he was elected as a member of the managing committee of District Bar Association Dacca, East Pakistan from 1969 to 1970. After migration to Karachi he was elected as (Honorary) General Secretary Co-operative Housing Society District Bar Association Karachi in the year 1987 to 1988. He has been elected as a member Sindh Bar Council for terms of five years in the years 1994, 1999 and 2005 and was elected to serve as Vice Chairman Sindh Bar Council from 1999 to 2000 and as Chairman Executive Committee Sindh Bar Council from 2006 to 2007. In the years 2008 and 2009 he was elected as member Managing Committee of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan and served as its Vice President. Mr. Mansoor was also elected as the Chairman of Pakistan Industrial & Intellectual Property Rights Association of Pakistan (PIPRA) in the year 1998 and he held this position till 2015. He was also nominated as member of the Policy Board of the Intellectual Property Organisation of Pakistan (an Organisation under Cabinet Division of the Government of Pakistan). Mr. Mansoor is also a member of Asian Patents Attorneys Association (APAA), International Trademarks Association (INTA) (based on firmís membership), Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA), Karachi Tax Bar Association, Karachi Bar Association, Sindh High Court Bar Association and the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan.

Mr. M. Naim-ur-Rahman

After completing his primary and secondary education in Pakistan, M. Naim ur Rahman attended the University College London and was called to the Bar from the Inner Temple in 1961. He began his practice in the same year at Karachi and after having worked at his family firm he was enrolled as an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1971. He took on the opportunity in 1971 to work as a Legal Advisor to a multinational oil company based in Pakistan. He returned to full time practice in 1973 and has since been practising in the High Courts and Supreme Court of Pakistan. He was appointed as Standing Counsel to the Federation of Pakistan in 1991 and as a Deputy Attorney General for the Federation of Pakistan from 1997 until 2003. Having practised for over 55 years he continues to appear before the High Court and the Supreme Court of Pakistan and joined the firm in July 2015 as a Consultant.

Mr. Javed Safdar Tanwiri

Since joining the firm in 1979 Javed has maintained a special interest in intellectual property matters, and over the years has been involved in a wide range of litigations and commercial matters concerning trade marks, geographical indications, designs, copyrights, electronic commerce law, Co-operative Societies, Rent, Succession, etc. He advises on a wide range of commercial transactions involving IP rights. His experience includes the preparation, processing and prosecution of applications, oppositions, rectifications, appeal and suit pleadings and other actions in the courts and at the Pakistan Trade Marks Office. He has appeared before various District & High Courts in Pakistan including at Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi & Islamabad. Javed is now also an Advocate of the Supreme Court of Pakistan and has appeared before the Supreme Court of Pakistan alongside senior counsels. He has also conducted many proceedings before the Pakistan Trademarks Office, the Pakistan Copyright Board, Controller of Patents and Registrar of Designs. Apart from participating in many Intellectual Property/Law conferences, workshops and seminars both locally and abroad, Javed has also made presentations on various topics concerning Intellectual Property. In addition Javed has experience in the area of general corporate representation. He was the Joint Secretary of Pakistan Industrial and Intellectual Property Rights Association (PIPRA) for six years, Senior Vice Chairman-II for a number of years and is now the Senior Vice Chairman I of the said Association. He is also a member of the Asian Patent Attorneys Association (APAA) having attended many APAA Council & General Meetings abroad and was also on the Designs & Copyright Standing Committees of APAA for a number of years. He is also a member of the Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan, Sindh High Court Bar Association, Karachi Tax Bar Association, International Trademarks Association (INTA) (based on firmís membership) and also a member of Inter-Pacific Bar Association (IPBA).
